Metal: Is it black and white?

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on December 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxDecember 13, 2022

Now more than ever, we are aware of quantum possibility. Lean in. When emotions run high, pause. Ask yourself, where is the grey in this situation? When you feel unhinged, pause. Where do you feel this in your body? When the mind chatters, pause. Is this the story of your best life? your highest self? If no, re-write it or seek the script authored by the great spirit/goddess/god. When you don’t understand. Stop assuming. Be curious. Allow possibility. Acknowledge the options. Invite a dialogue with these parts of yourself. Remember you are whole. You are sacred.

Metal: Let go of that which no longer serves

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on December 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxDecember 13, 2022

Let go of that which no longer serves. Autumn is the season of metal in Chinese Medicine. The energy is exacting, precise, cutting, reflective and alchemical. Just as the trees drop their leaves, we too are to let go of the old. This is the natural rhythm of the season. Many of us have outgrown jobs, relationships, locations. With integrity, now is the time to cut loose that which no longer serves you. Sometimes these decisions come in a brilliant flash. The action required is crystal clear. At times, we are reconsidering change year after year. The action required is … Continue reading →

Roasted Rosemary Sweet Potatoes

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on December 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxDecember 13, 2022

Post thanksgiving through Christmas, I live on a steady diet of one Christmas movie a night, beginning with the sappy, modern hallmark types and ending with the classics. I simplify my personal meals during this mini season between gatherings, events and celebrations.  Simple whole food sides are a form of self love and sometimes a full mono meal. I bring a simple, whole foods dishes to gatherings.  They are time savers, stress reducers and super foods! Believe it or not, it starts a lot of conversations. One of my all time favorites is Roasted Rosemary Sweet Potatoes.  ONLY 2 main ingredients 1. … Continue reading →

Metal: Pressure forms the gemstone

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 17, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 22, 2022

Diamonds form from elemental carbon between 237,000 – 1.3 million times atmospheric pressure deep within the earth. Just like us, rocks and minerals are in a constant state of change. Life gives us both expected and unexpected pressure. Are you able to utilize these stressors to transform yourself? What gems are you creating in your life? your community? your family? Jade is considered a healing power stone in Asian medicine. 15-75 miles below the earths surface in zones where the tectonic plates collide, extreme temperatures of 480–1110°F and extreme pressures of 87,000–507,500 pounds per square inch metamorphic rock, dolomite, transforms. … Continue reading →

Metal: Honor your Grief

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 17, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 17, 2022

Honor Your Grief. I recently read an intriguing research article about grief entitled: Grief, poetry, and the sweet unexpected. “The sweet unexpected includes the ease with which trauma survivors engage their trauma narrative, the critical insights that emerge in poetry, the beneficial social context of sharing poetry, and the healing benefits of poetry for writers, care providers, and readers alike.” The metal organ the lung is the seat of the emotion of grief. The large intestine’s facilitates in letting go or letting go into transformation. Grief comes in waves, often magnified by the holiday season and understood to be heighted … Continue reading →

Metal: Sweat it out

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 17, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 17, 2022

Sweat it out! I love my infrared heavenly heat sauna. And I am giving myself a big dose of self love today as I ready myself for a week of top performance. The metal element rules the lungs. Skin is an expression of the lung. The function of the pores to open and close depends on the balance of our internal metal. One of the best investments that I made in the last 10 years is a home sauna. I don’t choose to use public saunas for two reasons. It’s a poor use of my time to travel from home … Continue reading →

Metal: Hydrate

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 17, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 17, 2022

Hydrate. It is always important to stay hydrated. In the colder months it is easier to become dehydrated due to the drier air, the use of indoor heaters, and because the colder weather generally makes you desire water to quench your thirst less than the warmer months where you may use cold water to help cool you off. If you are noticing that your skin is getting drier chances are you aren’t getting enough water.   How much water should I drink? A good formulation is to divide your weight in pounds by half.  Convert that number to ounces. Notice … Continue reading →

Metal: Crush it with Cranberries

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 17, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxDecember 9, 2022

Eat local and organic when possible, particularly thin skinned fruits and vegetables.  When not organic, soak in a ratio of 1 tsp baking soda: 2 cups purified water. Soaking 12-15 minutes is ideal. Gently scrub thick skinned fruits and vegetables. Rinse with fresh water.  1.  Cranberry-Orange Relish Cut one large, sweet orange into 1/8s.  Deseed.  Place orange (yes skin and all) into powerful blender (blend-tech, vitamix) or food processor.  Chop by pulsing blades.  Stir as required to chop ingredients.  Add honey or stevia if more sweetness is desired. 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger may be added as an extra digestive … Continue reading →

Metal: Top Performance

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 17, 2022

Mindsets and patterns dictate our actions. Our actions create our outcomes.  The fall season is the time for self-reflection and honest evaluation of our daily mental habits.  Our habits are responses or reactions to the stories that we tell ourselves.  Moment to moment awareness, returning to the breath and interrupting our mind talk with inquiry creates pause. Change begins in emptiness. Emptiness is where possibility lives.  When you are ready for transformation, learn to pause.  Come back to your breath.  Stay with your breath for 3 cycles.  Then ask yourself.  What are the other possibilities? What may also be true? … Continue reading →

Metal: Shine on you crazy diamond

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 17, 2022

Shine on you crazy diamond! Allow your inner light to shine through as we move into days of diminishing daylight. Our moods may change with less light.  Diamonds form from elemental carbon between 237,000 – 1.3 million times atmospheric pressure deep within the earth.  Carbon is the fourth most abundant element in the universe according to mass. This makes carbon rather ‘ordinary’.  However the brilliance of the diamond is acquired from intense pressure to ordinary carbon.  Like carbon, our extraordinary-ness is derived from our ordinary-ness plus stress.  The practice of being present moment to moment helps us appreciate the extraordinary in … Continue reading →
