Metal: Experience the Sunset

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxNovember 17, 2022

Experience the sunset.  West is the direction of the metal season and honors endings and letting go of things that no longer serve us.  Check the sunset time daily.  Today the sun sets at 4:49 pm. Watching every possible sunrise and sunset was one of the first practices that trained me into the deep transformations of seasonal wellness practices. Settle in for the show.  Feel yourself. Lovingly pause the stories and narratives of the day. Savor the magnificence now:  the beauty, the difficultly, the ordinariness, the extraordinariness.   Visit element-wisdom.com for more information about Element Wisdom Cards and how this self-care … Continue reading →

Metal: Mirror. Mirror.

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on November 13, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxDecember 23, 2022

In Chinese culture the circle shape is associated with the Metal/Fall season and represents oneness, unity and being fulfilled. Perhaps one of the most common circles we encounter in our daily lives are mirrors. It is in a mirror that we can physically reflect on ourselves, however it is possible to reflect without a mirror as well. Look for circles today, but more importantly, reflect on what makes you whole. One self-care practice that I invite my patients to incorporate into their daily lives is looking into their eyes in the mirror daily upon waking and speak ‘I love you’ … Continue reading →

Earth: Eat Breakfast 7-9 am

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on September 24, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxDecember 23, 2022

We are just past the midpoint of the days of the Earth/Transition season which focus on Stomach, Spleen & Pancreas wellness. The optimal time to eat breakfast is between 7-9AM during the two hour energy peak of the Stomach according to the Chinese Medicine 24 hour clock. Breakfast is a great opportunity to jump start your health and nutrition goals each day. In order to optimize digestion, space your snacks and meals 4-5 hours apart.  This allows the MMC, migrating motor complex, of the small intestine to complete one full cycle, sweeping food into the intestine for digestion and sweeping … Continue reading →

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on September 19, 2022 by Dr. Sarita CoxSeptember 19, 2022

Boundaries with Dignity = Self Love 💗 People treat you the way you allow them to treat you. The pericardium, heart protector, may be injured with boundary violations like rape or incest or with trauma like divorce or heartbreak. If you struggle with setting or holding healthy boundaries or it appears that your boundaries are frequently being challenged, look inward AND outward. It is a self love practice. If you are still confused ask yourself: how does it feel if my daughter was being treated in this manner/allowing this situation? How does it feel if my best friend was? Then … Continue reading →

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on April 16, 2021 by Dr. Sarita CoxJanuary 22, 2023

The Asparagus Turnip soup exquisitely blends the rootedness of winter with the upward sprouting energy of spring. A simple soup is the perfect way to cook with the asparagus fresh in your yard or fresh from the spring markets. Focus

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on February 1, 2021 by Dr. Sarita CoxFebruary 26, 2021

Focus Each season has a corresponding set of organs that reach their energetic peak during the 73 day period.  Water rules the winter season. The bladder, kidney and adrenals are expressions of the water element in the landscape of the human body.  In addition to the organs and the yin/yang organ pair (kidney = yin & bladder = yang).  The water element manifests as the physical organs, their energetic pathways (meridians), the hair, teeth, bones, brain and spinal cord. Soup Cleanse Rules

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on January 31, 2021 by Dr. Sarita CoxFebruary 26, 2021

There are just a few basic ‘rulz’ and a lot of room for making it your own.  In my practice, I have learned that co-creating plans supports your wellness journey. No Grazing. Allow 4 to 5 hours between each meal.  This allows the nerve complex known as the migrating motor complex to move food out of our stomachs through the small intestine, optimizing nutrient absorption, maximizing digestive power while sweeping misplaced bacteria into the colon for elimination.  The MMC starts two hours after eating. Snacking between meals slows or stops the digestive process. Fermented Foods. Add one to two servings … Continue reading →

Soup Cleanse

Dr. Elizabeth Cox, ND, LAc Posted on January 27, 2021 by Dr. Sarita CoxFebruary 26, 2021

Soup Cleanse…….aka a winter reset    The number one question I get in January is “What do you think about this detox kit or that cleanse program or this product? My general answer is Winter is NOT the most harmonious time of the year to detoxify – save it for spring and fall.  And always, always prepare your body for a detox by opening the 5 avenues (emunctories) of elimination  ~ more on that later. Winter is for resting, restoring, dreaming, merging – hibernating in essence. I do understand the desire, even the need to reset after the overindulgence of … Continue reading →
